Pour It On, Baby!
Our tight schedule for the garage foundation continued onto Saturday
morning. The concrete arrived at 6 a.m. and the crew wasn't there. We
laughed nervously for 15 minutes about how we would need to learn how
to finish concrete in the next hour or so. Heh, heh. And then, of course,
the trained crew arrived and took over before we found our copy of "Concrete
Finishing for Dummies." Phew!
We had quite a few wrinkles with the delivery of the concrete, including
an attempt to short the delivery (but not the invoice) by several cubic
yards. Thanks to the fellow running the concrete pumper and neighbor Scott,
the concrete company made things right with us. In the end, it all worked
out just fine and another critical step was completed. Hallelujah.
As the sun rises, the concrete hose snakes back to the
waiting forms.

Trenches fill first. Will the forms hold?

Five guys and a hose full of concrete -- some fun early
on a Saturday morning.

"Come on! Out here! This is where the action is!
And we're action heroes! Let's go!"
 |
The magic goo is dumped out of the truck and into a
pumper that squishes it into the hose that fills the forms. And everyone
lived happily ever after. :-)

The concrete crew works from the back of the forms forward.

Finishing concrete is an important skill.

Almost full.
 |
Time to use the crazy looking device that smoothens
the surface.

And the final step begins.
