The Apprentice's Maiden Voyage

One of the things that was assured when we began this adventure is that I would learn a lot about Bill's world. The learning started immediately when Bill told me that I would be rehanging a door in the house. Yikes!

Take a look at the picture on the right. The door on the bedroom swung out into the hallway and blocked the entry into the living room, a main thoroughfare. The bedroom door also banged against the closet door that was right outside in the hallway.

All of the doors will eventually be upgraded, but this door was annoying us in a big way, so it was a perfect starter project for the journeyman's apprentice. Basically, I couldn't screw it up since we wouldn't be keeping the door or the frame in the finished project!

Bill is a great teacher, and let me think out what needed to happen and in what order. Man, carpenters know a lot of stuff! Working with the chisel was my favorite part, including learning not to whack too much off the door frame. Another skill for my resume!
